Duggie Dug Dug Day

Children's Workers Seminar

The training seminar will consider "Worship for 21st Century Kids". Doug will look at the culture kids are growing up in, the influences they are exposed to, and how we can stay relevant to our children in praise and worship; and is packed full of practical ideas. Doug will also talk about "Journeying with Children" to help them go deeper with God in prayer and worship. There will be a time at the end of the seminar to pray for the children's workers. 'Fun, interactive, inspiring and very funky - expect to enjoy yourself!' Lead by 'Doug Horley (Duggie Dug Dug) one of the UK's leading children's workers and writer of "We want to see Jesus lifted high", "Great great brill brill" and many other well known songs'.

Annual Report 2010-11

This last year has seem some changes in the leadership of Sunday Club, but the core team remains the same, with one exception. In September Andrea Randall decided to step down from her regular teaching role. I thank her for her many years of diligent service to the children in Sunday Club. The team is now co-ordinated by Debbie Hooker. Denise Collins, Lynn Nichols, Terry Randall and Carroll Walsh all teach regularly and faithfully, their commitment and dedication to the children of Sunday Club is to be commended.

Our aim in Sunday Club is to teach God's word and to help the children along their journey in discovering Jesus, developing a personal relationship with Him and living a life as He would desire. We try to do this in an age-appropriate and culturally relevant way. Each week we look at a passage of scripture. The older children are encouraged to read it for themselves from their own bible. We also use storybooks, video clips, DVDs, drama, puppet shows and role play to illustrate the story. We discuss the passage and think about what it teaches us about God or Jesus and what we can learn from it with regard to how we live. We share news, play games, sing, and use other activities and craft to help us on the way. This year we have considered the life of David, looked at Paul's letters, and learned about Daniel, Jonah, Esther, Zaccheus and the Good Samaritan. We have tried to learn and remember some verses from the bible. In September we enjoyed the 'Bring a friend to breakfast', and have had lots of fun at the Light Party and Christmas Party. Many of the children were pleased to participate in the Children and Youth Christmas Service.

Although relatively few in number, we usually have between 5 and 8 children attending each week, there are challenges. We have a mix of children from Christian and non-Christian backgrounds, for which we thank God. There is a wide variation in age, ability, character and behaviour of those who attend. This makes planning lessons and activities that will engage and develop all of the children very difficult, and often requires several adult helpers. Please continue to pray for us as we consider the best way to approach this.

Thanks go to Ruth Pepler for her help and support as she handed over to me after many years of working in Sunday Club.
