I Heard the bells on Christmas Day

As with so many of the great carols, there is a fascinating story behind the well-known "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day."

It was written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an American poet and educator (1807 - 1882). Tragedy struck both the nation and the Longfellow family in 1861, a year that would change Henry's life. Confederate Gen. Pierre G. T. Beauregard fired the opening salvos of the American Civil War on April 12th and life would never be the same again.

Who Cares?

In a day in which there is so much change and when many people's lives are so constrained by schedules and the demands of 21st century life, it is not surprising that, increasingly, there are those who feel very much left behind. As the pressure builds on us to achieve more, consume more, focus on ourselves more, there are those around us who virtually become invisible. So who cares?

Introducing Street Pastors

Have you heard about Wantage and Grove Street Pastors? Or seen them about in their blue jackets on a Friday or Saturday night? Ever wondered who they are or why they do it?
